This update includes the following changes to WD SmartWare.
* The ability to hide the Virtual CD (VCD) - We’ve included an option under Drive Settings in the WD SmartWare software to hide the VCD associated with your drive. You can also toggle the VCD to be visible again from the same Drive Settings menu.
What is a VCD - We take a very small portion (700 MB or .07% of a 1 TB drive) of our drive and set it aside to hold the software and enable the hardware encryption feature. This portion of the drive appears on your computer as if it were a CD drive. Some of our customers requested a way to hide the VCD on their computer.
A word of caution: The VCD makes it possible to enter a password and unlock an encrypted drive as you move the drive from computer to computer. If you disable the VCD, you will also disable the password protection feature.
* Support for Netbook computers - WD SmartWare will now work on the smaller screen sizes found on Netbook computers.
* The ability to exit WD SmartWare from the Windows system tray. If you want to stop the continuous backup capability, you can now exit the software from the system tray. To restart WD SmartWare, simply click the system tray icon and re-launch the software.
* WD SmartWare opt-out - We’ve added a button to allow customers to skip the installation of WD SmartWare software. Once a user has opted out, they will not be prompted to install the software again.
* Localization fixes - This version of WD SmartWare addresses a number of non-English language issues.
