Windows 95/98 ATI RAGE enhanced display driver problems

The Windows 95/98 ATI RAGE enhanced display driver is capable of using monitor timing data contained within Windows 95/98. This data is selected by configuring a monitor type at Windows 95/98 installation time, or via the Settings page of the display properties sheet. If you change the selected monitor type via the Settings page of the display properties sheet, the new timing data may not take effect until after you restart Windows 95/98. A solution to this problem: always restart Windows 95/98 after changing the monitor type.

The Windows 95/98 ATI RAGE enhanced display driver is capable of using monitor timing data contained within Windows 95/98. This data is selected by configuring a monitor type at Windows 95/98 installation time, or via the Settings page of the display properties sheet. The Windows 95/98 ATI RAGE enhanced display driver may incorrectly interpret Windows 95/98 monitor timing data for some older monitors that require interlaced modes. In Windows 95/98, display drivers can be installed via the Add New Hardware wizard (although the procedure detailed in section 3.0 is recommended). When the Windows 95/98 ATI RAGE enhanced display driver is installed via the Add New Hardware wizard, the Settings page is not installed into the ATI RAGE display adapter property sheet.

In Windows 95/98, Rapid Resuming with the Virtual Desktop on causes loss of the Virtual Desktop. This is because Windows 95/98 reinitializes the video mode on an APM resume. No data loss occurs. The desktop size is reduced to the screen size. Windows 95/98 also reinitializes the video mode when windows is restarted on systems with Rapid Resume. Again, no data loss occurs, and the desktop size is reduced to the screen size.

Installations from network drives is only supported when using mapped drive letters (e.g. N:\WIN9x\disk1..) Universal naming convention paths (e.g. \\netserv\win9x\disk1..) are not currently supported by the ATISETUP.EXE.
